FM Ishaq Dar denounces Israel over flotilla raid
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday strongly condemned Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, demanding the immediate release of detained activists and unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The flotilla was carrying nearly 500 international activists on over 40 vessels.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Foreign Minister Dar said:
“Pakistan strongly condemns Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla and detention of international activists in flagrant violation of international law. We demand an immediate ceasefire, lifting of blockade, swift release of activists and unhindered aid to Gaza.”
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Palestinians, stressing the need for a sovereign, independent state based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Earlier, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan condemned the incident, calling Israel’s actions “a flagrant violation of international law and humanitarian law.” He said the unlawful detention endangered civilian lives and was part of Israel’s ongoing pattern of aggression and blockade against Gaza.
The FO noted that obstructing humanitarian relief violates Israel’s obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The Global Sumud Flotilla comprised more than 40 civilian vessels carrying nearly 500 activists from various countries. Its mission was to deliver critical humanitarian aid to besieged Gaza, where over two million Palestinians continue to face deprivation.
The interception has drawn criticism internationally, with calls for accountability and for Israel to respect humanitarian law.Full respect for international law and human rights law.
