Florida Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Shooting at Israeli Visitors
WASHINGTON – A Florida man, 27-year-old Mordechai Brafman, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder after allegedly shooting at two men he mistakenly thought were Palestinians. The incident occurred on Saturday in Miami Beach when Brafman, while driving his truck, reportedly saw two individuals he believed to be Palestinian. He stopped his vehicle and fired at them, claiming to have killed them, according to a police report.
However, the victims, who were Israeli visitors, survived the shooting. One was struck in the shoulder, and the other suffered a wound to the forearm. Brafman was arrested the following day and booked into the Miami-Dade County Corrections facility.
The rise in such incidents is being linked to escalating hate crimes in the U.S., fueled by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Human rights advocates have pointed to increased anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian, and antisemitic attacks since the conflict intensified in October 2023.
