Floods, Landslides, and Lightning Claim 28 Lives in Afghanistan

Afghanistan Battered by Deadly Floods and Landslides as Death Toll Reaches 28 and Communities Struggle to Survive

Afghanistan – (Web Desk) -Heavy rains that have been battering Afghanistan for several days have tragically claimed at least 28 lives, leaving another 49 people wounded. The relentless downpours unleashed deadly flash floods, landslides, and lightning strikes across various parts of the country, leaving communities in shock and devastation.

Afghan authorities confirm that the catastrophic weather set in on Thursday, quickly turning into a nightmare for thousands of residents. Homes were swept away or buried, with over 100 houses completely destroyed. Officials are deeply concerned that the death toll may climb further as rescue teams work tirelessly to reach affected areas and assess the full scale of the damage.

The combination of flooding, landslides, and lightning has painted a heartbreaking picture across multiple provinces, where families are now struggling to piece their lives back together. Relief and recovery efforts are underway, but authorities are urging caution as the situation continues to unfold.

The latest disaster adds to a growing toll from extreme weather in Afghanistan, where vulnerable infrastructure and mountainous terrain frequently amplify the impact of seasonal rains and snow.

In January, more than 60 people were killed in the country due to heavy rainfall and snowfall, underscoring the recurring humanitarian risks posed by harsh weather conditions.

Afghanistan has repeatedly faced deadly flooding in recent years, with aid agencies warning that climate-related shocks, poor drainage systems, and fragile housing leave many communities highly exposed to natural disasters.
