Flash Floods Claim 21 Lives from Two Families in Afghanistan

KABUL– At least 21 members of two families lost their lives in flash floods on Tuesday in the western province of Farah, Afghanistan, according to an Interior Ministry spokesman. The victims, including women and children, were part of a group who had gone for a picnic in Kojar village, located in the Pushtkoh district.

Abdul Mateen Qaniee, the ministry spokesman, stated that the families were climbing a mountain when they were struck by heavy rain and a hailstorm, which led to flash floods. Five other individuals from the group were reported to have suffered injuries in the tragic event.

This latest disaster comes after a devastating flash flood in northern Afghanistan last year, which killed 315 people and injured over 1,600. Authorities continue to warn the public about the risks of extreme weather conditions during the monsoon season.
