Both sides reiterated their dedication to deepening ties and fostering mutual collaboration in various fields.

Islamabad – The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to promote parliamentary diplomacy to enhance bilateral, regional, and multilateral cooperation across various sectors, including economy, trade, investment, climate change, peace and security, culture, and tourism.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and the Honorable Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani. The two sides discussed the need for stronger parliamentary relations and committed to exchanging high-level delegations. They also agreed to establish a Pakistan-Ethiopia Parliamentary Friendship Group within the Senate of Pakistan.

Ambassador Abdula briefed the Senate Chairman on Ethiopia’s regional integration initiatives, particularly its leadership role in promoting peace and security in the Horn of Africa through counter-terrorism collaborations with neighboring countries. He highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms, which have improved macroeconomic stability, boosted productivity, and attracted foreign direct investment.

The Ambassador also noted the growing bilateral cooperation in sectors such as finance, trade, aviation, culture, science, and climate change, particularly after the establishment of the Ethiopian Mission in Islamabad and the launch of Ethiopian Airlines’ operations in Karachi.

Ambassador Abdula invited the Chairman of the Senate to a Single Country Exhibition hosted by the Ethiopian Government in Addis Ababa in May 2025, organized by the Government of Pakistan.
