ECP issues notices to candidates for violating code of conduct in Punjab,
LAHORE – The Election Commission has issued notices to PML-N and PPP candidates in Lahore’s NA-127 and PP-160 constituencies for violating the electoral code of conduct.
According to details, PML-N candidate Ata Tarar from NA-127 and PPP candidate Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman from PP-160 have been put on notice by the district monitoring officer, following the directions of the provincial election commissioner in Punjab.
The notices pertain to the alleged vote-buying and selling by the PPP as well as the subsequent attack on its election office by the PML-N.
Both candidates have been summoned by the district monitoring officer with documentary evidence on Feb 5.
Earlier,
Election Commission on Sunday issued warning notices to several candidates in Punjab for violating the electoral code of conduct.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab election Commissioner, district monitoring officers took notice of the incidents of code of conduct violations in Punjab province and issued warning notices to several candidates.
He added that a notice was issued to Jahangir Tareen, the candidate from NA-155 Lodhran, for carrying out development work in the constituency.
Similarly, a warning was issued to candidate Muhammad Tayyab from PP 208 Khanewal for advertising material against the rules while also notices were also issued to four candidates from different constituencies of Khanewal.
Meanwhile, clarifications have been sought from Ali Waqas Hanjara, candidate of PP-232 Vihari, Syed Muhammad Asghar of NA-160 Bahawalnagar, Inam Bari Lalika of PP-238, while nine candidates of different constituencies of Bahawalpur have also been asked to abide by the code of conduct.
Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab says that the integrated system of election campaign monitoring is fully operational across the province.
ECP prints 260mn ballot papers, arranges 0.7mn boxes for 2024 elections,
ECP has successfully completed the printing of 260 million ballot papers for all constituencies in the country ahead of the 2024 elections.
The electoral watchdog has also arranged 700,000 ballot boxes for the elections, with more than 276,000 polling booths being set up across the country.
According to a spokesperson for the ECP, “National Assembly ballots are identifiable by green paper, whereas Provincial Assembly ballots are printed on white paper. Except for 31 districts, the distribution of printed ballot papers has been finalised across the nation.”
The printing, which commenced on Jan 14, concluded by Feb 3.
The ECP stated that in compliance with a Supreme Court directive, ballot papers for 11 National Assembly and five Provincial Assembly constituencies underwent reprinting, with the original ones set for destruction as per the court order.
ECP unveils comprehensive candidate details for 2024 elections
ECP officials disclosed that this time, a total of 260 million ballot papers were printed, reflecting a 54.74 percent rise in candidates compared to the 2018 elections.
The ECP has also arranged 700,000 ballot boxes for the elections.
According to sources, more than 276,000 polling booths are being set up across the country, with two ballot boxes to be provided for each polling booth.
In one ballot box, votes will be cast for the National Assembly, while in the other, votes will be cast for the Provincial Assembly.
A total of 552,000 ballot boxes will be used nationwide, with an additional 180,000 in reserve.
