Election Commission seeks time to submit Form-45 record of Maryam Nawaz’s PP-159

Lahore High Court Election Tribunal heard an appeal filed against the victory of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz wherein Maryam Nawaz submitted her answer before the tribunal.

The lawyer of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) asked for time to submit the original record of Form 45.

LHC Justice Anwar Hussain asked why the forms were not uploaded to the ECP website. The judge accepted the request of the lawyer and adjourned the hearing to the last week of July.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz submitted the answer before the tribunal. Barrister Asadullah Chatta Advocate filed a reply on behalf of Maryam Nawaz.

“The appeal is not hearable, according to law this appeal cannot be tried,” on which the judge remarked the tribunal needs answers to some questions.

“How many polling stations were there in Constituency PP-159,” Justice Anwar Hussain inquired to which ECP counsel replied registered polling stations as per the polling scheme was 102.

“Form 45 will be signed by the Presiding Officer. Candidates from other constituencies will also have the same form,” Justice Anwar Hussain remarked.

“It is written in the law that election appeals should be tried as soon as possible,’ the LHC justice added.

LHC Justice Anwar Hussain will hear the appeal of opposition candidate Meher Sharafat wherein he prayed that the notification of victory of Maryam Nawaz from PP-159 is contrary to facts.
