Eight Terrorists Killed in Two Separate Engagements in KP: ISPR

Rawalpindi: Eight terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, as part of ongoing military operations targeting militant groups in the region, the military’s media wing reported.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the first operation occurred in the Tank district, where security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in response to the reported presence of Khwarij militants. During the engagement, six terrorists were killed in an exchange of gunfire with security forces.

The second operation took place in the Tirah Valley, located in Khyber, where Pakistani troops eliminated two more militants linked to the Khwarij group. The ISPR further added that sanitization operations are underway to clear the area of any remaining militants.

The military emphasized its unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country. “Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country,” the ISPR statement read.

On Monday, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, during a visit to Peshawar, reaffirmed the military’s resolve to tackle any threats to Pakistan’s peace. “Any attempt to disrupt Pakistan’s peace will be met with decisive military force,” the Army Chief declared after receiving a security briefing.

The resurgence of militant violence in Pakistan’s western regions has been a growing concern since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021. According to the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies, last year saw more than 1,500 casualties, marking the highest death toll in six years, with civilians, security forces, and militants among the victims.

Pakistan’s military continues to target the banned militant faction, Fitna Al Khawarij, which has been a major source of unrest along the country’s volatile western borders.
