Eight Arrested at Karachi Airport for Fraudulent Travel Documents
FIA Operations Uncover Attempted Umrah Scheme
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested eight passengers at Jinnah International Airport who were attempting to travel abroad using fake documents.
The arrests took place during two distinct operations on October 1.
In the first operation, five individuals were detained while attempting to board a flight to Saudi Arabia, where they claimed they planned to perform Umrah. However, immigration officials found their documents suspicious, leading to further inquiry, which revealed that the group intended to beg in the Gulf country.
In the second operation, three passengers were apprehended while trying to fly to Azerbaijan with fraudulent documents, allegedly for the purpose of studying there. One of the arrested individuals, Muhammad Hussain, is a police employee from Peshawar who attempted to travel without obtaining a no objection certificate (NOC) from his department and failed to disclose his job status.
According to the FIA spokesperson, a visa agent from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had facilitated these travelers, charging them substantial fees for the service.
These arrests come amid growing concerns among Gulf nations regarding the behavior of Pakistani expatriates, particularly those who engage in begging while posing as pilgrims. Recent reports have highlighted that many Pakistanis traveling abroad, especially to Iraq and Saudi Arabia, have been involved in begging upon their arrival.
