Eidul Fitr 2025 to Bring Long-Awaited Week-Long Holiday in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Eidul Fitr 2025 is expected to bring a much-awaited extended holiday period in Pakistan, with many eagerly anticipating a festive break from March 29 to April 6, 2025. Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting and reflection, will culminate in the celebration of Eidul Fitr, which marks the end of the month of fasting and is one of the most significant Islamic festivals.

The exact date of Eidul Fitr is determined by the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, following an ancient Islamic tradition. According to the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, Eidul Fitr in 2025 is expected to fall on March 31. Experts from the council have stated that the crescent moon will be visible across most regions of Pakistan on the evening of March 30, with the moon being over 26 hours old by then, meeting the necessary criteria for visibility.

The extended holiday speculation has generated excitement across the country, as the first three days of Eid are expected to coincide with the Monday to Wednesday workweek. This has led to anticipation that the government may announce a five-day official holiday from March 29 to April 2. If the government also grants leave on Thursday and Friday, the break could potentially stretch to nine days, from March 29 to April 6. However, the final holiday schedule will be confirmed after the official moon sighting announcement.
