ECP Stands Firm, Quetta LG Elections to Proceed December 28

Quetta Local Government Elections Scheduled for December 28, 2025

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has dismissed Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti’s petition to postpone local government elections in Quetta. Bugti had requested the delay, citing worsening law and order and the suspension of internet services in the provincial capital.

In its written order, the ECP confirmed that polling in Quetta district will be held on December 28, 2025, as per the previously announced schedule. The commission directed that all institutions provide full support to ensure smooth elections.

The ECP emphasized the need for foolproof security arrangements to safeguard voters, candidates, election staff, and the public. The order stressed that peaceful polling must be ensured without interruption.

However, ECP member Shah Muhammad, in a dissenting note, warned that severe winter conditions might affect voter turnout, as many people migrate to other districts during this season.
