Former MQM Leaders, Raza Haroon and Anees Advocate, Join PPP Ahead of General Elections

In a significant political development, senior politicians formerly associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Raza Haroon and Anees Advocate, have officially joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as the campaign momentum intensifies leading up to the February 8 general elections.

The announcement of their affiliation with the PPP followed a meeting with the former president and the party’s co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari, in Karachi. Raza Haroon, a former provincial minister, had previously joined Mustafa Kamal’s Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) in 2016, while Anees Advocate, an MQM dissident, also joined the PSP in the same year but has now joined the PPP.

According to an official statement released by the PPP, Zardari warmly welcomed Haroon and Anees, both former members of MQM’s Rabita Committee, into the party. The meeting focused on the “Charter of Karachi,” addressing issues related to development, peace, security, and fostering a friendly environment in the port city.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that the PPP’s Charter of Karachi would have a significant impact on the city’s future, asserting that the PPP is the party of the people of Karachi. He highlighted the party’s commitment to restoring the city’s prosperity and peace, countering the disruptions caused by adversaries of peace and purveyors of hate.

During the meeting, Zardari discussed PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s 10-point election agenda, emphasizing that the party aims to bring transformative development projects to Karachi and every corner of Pakistan. These projects, he stated, are designed to alleviate the hardships faced by the common man during a time of inflation.

As the country gears up for the national-level polls in February, the PPP has initiated its election campaign with a focus on Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s 10-point agenda. The party pledges to prioritize policies that enhance the welfare of the people, outlining a comprehensive plan for implementation if voted into power in the upcoming elections.
