DRAP Denies Any Hike in Essential Medicine Prices

DRAP Refutes Reports of Medicine Price Hikes in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) on Sunday strongly denied reports suggesting a hike in the prices of essential medicines, calling such claims “baseless.”

In an official statement, DRAP clarified that no price increases had been announced for vital drugs, including insulin and other life-saving medications. The authority emphasized that pharmaceutical companies cannot raise medicine prices independently.

A DRAP spokesperson highlighted the measures being taken to ensure a steady supply of medicines. Companies have been directed to procure raw materials from multiple sources and maintain adequate stock to prevent shortages.

Notably, 85% of medicines used in Pakistan are locally manufactured, and current conditions in the Gulf region are not affecting supplies. Most pharmaceutical firms reportedly have stock sufficient for four to six months, reassuring the public about continued availability.

The DRAP urged media outlets to verify information with the authority before reporting on medicine shortages, stressing that accurate reporting is essential to prevent unnecessary public concern.
