Islamabad(Mohsin Ali): Delays arrows Confusion among Mgmt says Rashid Latif . Former Pakistan cricket team captain Rashid Latif termed PCB had made a mistake by uncalled for delay in announcing national team for the upcoming World T20 Cup.
Rashid expressed these views during an exclusive interview to The Destination on Tuesday, he further added “Usually when such delays are done it means their is confusion among management and selection committee, we had witnessed that during the Ireland series, settled teams like India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa had already declared their WC squads, they know which is their main bowler, batter and which is playing XI, while on the other hand, when it comes to PAkistan team, despite having a selection committee, coach, captain we are stilll wondering who will be in 15 and who would be dropped.”
Rashid further said “Australia had Head in place of Finch, England had Salt to replace Hales, but as far as Pakistan team is concerend we have to bring in Usman, Imad, Amir, Salman ALi Agha, even Hassan Ali, which shows they are not clear and underprepared, The appointment of highly qualified and most successful coach Gary Kirsten of South Africa is a wonderful move, appoinment must have positive impact on Pakistan cricket team during the upcoming WC, although Kirsten doesn’t have much time to transform Pakistan team, to be honest, but having such vast experince and a world cup winning coach with India, I am sure Kirsten will definately help green caps in doing well in USA and West Indies.”
He further said “Thier is massive responsibiliy on the shouders of Azhar Mahmood, he is coching round the world, he could act as an bridge between players and head caoch, Azhar had recetnly won PSL with ISlamabad United, Azhar is also red ball assistant coach as well, he will work with Austrlian Jason Gillespie, who is Pakistan cricket team red ball head coach, PCB must have to deicde same batting order, which will be used against England during the four T20 Interntionals, which are starting from today, the same batting order should be carry forward during the T20 WC.”
Rashid further said “Pakistan cricket teams main weakness is middle overs batting and bowling, if we fail to muster enough runs during the phase 7-15 overs, their is every possibility, we might not put up enough score for our bowlers on the board, but if Kirsten and team managment manage to come over this weakness, I can assure Pakistan would be a team to watch during the WC, when asked about the impact of 4 T20 Interntionals in England, Rashid replied “The biggest adavantage is we are playing against the defending WT20 champions, the series will help Pakistan learn from their mistakes and be ready and prepared for the WC, as this is he last competative series prior to the start of the mega event in US/WI.”
Rashid further said “US/ICC must be thankful to Pakistan/India they are playing matches in US, a massive market is about to be unleashed, the hefty prices of the WC ticket are more than enough to support my claim, US is also going to host 2028 Olympics and cricket is already included in the Olympics, Pakistan/India/UAE may be biggest cricketing markets in the world but the biggest obstacle is these countrie doesn’t legslide betting, but US allows betting, which can be highly helpful for cricketing promotion in US.”
When asked about the realistic chances of Pakistan and India in the WC, Rashid relied “Pakistan/India if we look at 2022 WC, they are looking a bit weak ones, pressure of winning is on both teams, but India would be under severe pressure to lift the ICC WT20, as their public won’ settle down anything less than the title, more than 11 years wait for ICC title is itself a huge pressure in the minds of ROhit and company and honestly if we look at IPL, Rohit badly fail to perform, but ICC is different balll game, India had the advantge that Virat and Rohit had made chnages in their game, which mean India badly need Rohit/Virat and Jaiswal to perform in majority of matches, if top 3 performs, I can assure India will play the WC finals, while on the other hand, if we talk about Pakistan chances, we hope 170 from Pak batters, Pak bowlers always rose to the occasion, whether spinners or pacers, even though Pak team at tims doesn’t put of enough total on the board, but our bowlers made the difference.”

“Imad could be the X factor with both bat and bowl for Pakistan, while Azam Khan could be the impactful player for Pakistan team as well, if he carries on playing aggresively the way he does th best, while about Amir impact, if he plays he could be most dependable in the death overs, as he had veriation in his bolwing he could take main wickets in the death and Shaheen’s first 2 overs could decide the fate of the majority of Pakistan matches, Shahdab is going well in batting, but if he performs with the bowl alongside Imad, it could result in Pakistan had bright chances of going into last 2, Rashid concluded.”
