Deadly Japan snowstorm kills 46, injures 558 across regions

Severe snowstorm in Japan disrupts transport, injures hundreds, collapses roofs, and threatens daily life across coastal and northern regions.

Japan – (Web Desk) – Thick layers of snow have brought transport to a standstill, as Japan’s coastal and northern regions face severe winter conditions.

Authorities warn that risks continue, with roofs collapsing and roads still blocked.

After hitting the United States and Europe, Japan is now enduring a long-lasting, intense snowstorm that has caused significant damage and loss of life.

According to disaster management officials, heavy snowfall over the past three weeks has claimed at least 46 lives and left 558 people injured across the country.

Officials said that harsh weather conditions have buried large parts of northern Japan under thick layers of snow, severely affecting daily life and emergency response operations.

In Aomori, a key northern regional hub, snowfall has accumulated to nearly four feet, making it one of the worst-hit areas during the ongoing weather crisis.

The heavy snowfall has also disrupted traffic systems in Japan’s coastal regions, where roads have become impassable, and transport services remain suspended in several locations.

Foreign media reported multiple accidents caused by large masses of snow falling from rooftops, damaging property and injuring residents.
