CS3D Explained: Pakistan Engages with European Trade Regulations
ISLAMABAD-(Mudassar Iqbal): The Embassy of Pakistan in Brussels, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and the Directorate General Trade (DG Trade) of the European Commission, organized an informative session on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D). This directive introduces new obligations regarding human rights and climate change for European economic operators and businesses in non-EU countries involved in their supply chains. The session attracted a significant number of business associations and stakeholders from Pakistan.
Gabriele Lo Monaco from DG Trade delivered an in-depth presentation outlining various aspects of the regulations. He explained the obligations set forth by the CS3D, the rationale for these requirements, and the enforcement mechanisms in place, as detailed in a press release issued on Saturday.
Following the presentation, an interactive Q&A session provided participants with additional clarity on the topic.
Omar Hameed, Economic Minister at the Pakistan Embassy in Brussels, expressed gratitude to the European Commission for facilitating the session. He emphasized the importance for Pakistani businesses to prepare and adapt to the new regulations, as compliance will be crucial for maintaining access to European markets.
