Crackdown on Gas Theft: 268 Connections Disconnected, Rs 4 Million Fine Imposed

LAHORE: In a determined effort to curb gas pilferage, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has intensified its crackdown, resulting in the disconnection of 268 illegal connections across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Islamabad. Additionally, fines totaling Rs 4 million have been imposed on offenders.

In Lahore, the regional team took action by disconnecting 15 connections involved in the illegal use of gas. Similarly, in Rawalpindi, 40 connections were disconnected due to illegal gas usage, with an additional 6 connections involved in compressor use, resulting in fines amounting to Rs 0.28 million.

Multan also witnessed a crackdown, with six connections disconnected for illegal gas use and 36 connections for compressor use. In Peshawar and Karak, a total of 109 connections were disconnected for direct and illegal gas usage, with fines totaling Rs 3.71 million. Furthermore, the team filed three FIRs against gas thieves.

In Sahiwal, five connections were disconnected for compressor use, while one connection faced disconnection for illegal gas usage. In Sheikhupura, 42 connections were disconnected for illegal gas use, leading to fines of Rs 0.02 million. The Bahawalpur regional team disconnected one connection for compressor use.

In Faisalabad, one connection was disconnected for illegal gas use, and a fine of Rs 0.03 million was imposed for gas theft cases. Similarly, in Gujarat, six connections were disconnected for illegal gas usage.

These stringent actions demonstrate the commitment of SNGPL to eradicate gas theft and ensure fair distribution of resources, contributing to a more transparent and accountable energy sector.
