Counter-Terrorism and Regional Stability Highlighted During Bass’s Visit to Pakistan
Discussions with Pakistani Officials Address Key Security and Economic Issues
On Monday, the US State Department announced that Under Secretary John Bass had visited Pakistan to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation. During his visit, Bass met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as well as Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir in Islamabad.
State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller provided details during a press briefing, highlighting that the discussions covered various aspects of collaboration, including counter-terrorism and regional stability. Miller noted that the talks focused on expanding cooperation in economic and security fields, with a particular emphasis on tackling terrorism and violent extremism.
Miller also mentioned that Under Secretary Bass expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s ongoing support in helping Afghan refugees resettle in the United States. He emphasized that the US remains committed to working closely with Pakistan on these issues.

The readout also highlighted that Under Secretary John Bass extended his congratulations to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Pakistan’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term. Bass conveyed the United States’ eagerness to collaborate closely with Pakistan throughout its tenure on the Council.
