Lahore: (Web Desk) – Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a series of major public relief initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and easing the financial burden on citizens amid rising fuel prices, while also delivering a message on global peace and humanitarian responsibility on the International Day of Conscience.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister announced a targeted financial assistance package for wheat growers across Punjab. Under this initiative, farmers owning up to 25 acres of land will receive a diesel subsidy calculated at Rs. 150 per liter for 10 liters per acre. The move comes at a time when global oil price fluctuations have significantly impacted fuel prices in Pakistan, increasing production costs for the agricultural sector.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that the farming community forms the backbone of the national economy and assured that her government stands firmly with them. She stated that she is personally overseeing the subsidy distribution mechanism to ensure transparency, efficiency, and timely delivery of financial assistance to deserving farmers. “We will continue to protect the rights of our farmers and support them in every possible way, Insha’Allah,” she said.
Free Public Transport Initiative
In another major relief measure, the Chief Minister announced free public transport services across the province to counter the impact of soaring petrol prices on the general public. The initiative is aimed at providing immediate financial relief to low- and middle-income groups who are most affected by rising transportation costs.
Following her directives, Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan actively visited multiple stations of the Metro Bus System in Lahore to review the implementation of the free travel facility. During his visits, he inspected passenger amenities and directly interacted with commuters to gather feedback on the initiative.

Passengers expressed widespread satisfaction and appreciation for the government’s timely intervention. Many commuters highlighted that the free transport service has significantly reduced their daily expenses and provided much-needed relief amid economic pressures. Several passengers also urged the government to increase the number of buses to accommodate the growing demand.
Bilal Akbar Khan expressed satisfaction with the overall implementation of the initiative and directed transport authorities to address passenger concerns promptly. He noted that the Chief Minister’s decision has “won the hearts of the people” and reaffirmed her image as a leader committed to public welfare.
He further observed a substantial increase in ridership across various public transport systems, including Metro Bus services, Speedo buses, the Orange Line Metro Train Lahore, and electric buses. According to officials, a growing number of citizens are opting for public transport instead of private vehicles due to the availability of free travel.
The minister also highlighted the success of the Green Electric Bus project, stating that it is playing a vital role in providing comfortable, environmentally friendly, and cost-free travel to millions of people across the province.
Public Response and Impact
The combined effect of fuel subsidies for farmers and free public transport has been widely viewed as a comprehensive relief strategy by the provincial government. Economic analysts note that these measures not only provide short-term financial support but also help stabilize key sectors such as agriculture and urban mobility.
Farmers, in particular, have welcomed the diesel subsidy, stating that rising fuel costs had significantly increased the cost of cultivation, especially during the wheat harvesting season. The subsidy is expected to ease operational expenses and support agricultural productivity.
Similarly, urban commuters have expressed relief over the free transport initiative, with many describing it as a “lifeline” during a period of inflation. The increased reliance on public transport is also being seen as a positive step toward reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
Message on International Day of Conscience
