CM Maryam Nawaz Leads Punjab’s Largest Flood Relief Operation: Senior Minister
Relief efforts are being carried out through 511 relief camps and 351 medical camps operating round-the-clock.
Lahore : (Asif Iqbal) Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is standing firmly with the people in this difficult time, personally supervising what she described as the largest flood relief operation in the province’s history.
Speaking to the media, she said that on the directives of the Chief Minister, cabinet members, parliamentarians, district administrations, Rescue 1122, police, civil defense, and all relevant institutions have joined hands to assist the victims. “A grand rescue operation is underway with full speed, utilizing all available machinery and resources to save lives and relocate affected people to safer areas,” she added.
According to official figures, the devastating floods have so far claimed 30 lives across Punjab. A total of 2,038 villages have been affected by floodwaters from three major rivers: 1,169 from the Chenab, 462 from the Ravi, and 391 from the Sutlej. The calamity has impacted over 1.5 million people, with more than 481,000 successfully evacuated to safer locations.
Relief efforts are being carried out through 511 relief camps and 351 medical camps operating round-the-clock. Currently, 6,373 victims are residing in these camps. In addition, over 405,000 livestock have been shifted to safer grounds, supported by 321 veterinary camps providing medical assistance.
The number of boats deployed for rescue missions has been increased to 808, enabling the safe evacuation of 68,477 people in the past 36 hours alone. Minister Aurangzeb noted that thanks to the Chief Minister’s pre-emptive measures and anti-encroachment drives, Punjab was spared from greater human loss despite the scale of the disaster.

“The climate crisis has now turned into a catastrophe,” she warned, announcing that the Punjab government will soon introduce a modern early warning system. Following the flood recovery phase, a robust anti-encroachment operation will also be launched. She added that the government is working on a comprehensive strategy to minimize future losses in light of recent experiences.
Paying tribute to frontline workers, the Senior Minister said, “The rescuers and relief workers are our real heroes. The rehabilitation of flood victims and compensation for losses remain the government’s top priority.”
