China urges calm between Pakistan and Afghanistan

Beijing calls for dialogue after Pakistan-Afghanistan airstrike incident

BEIJING: (Web Desk) – China on Tuesday called for “calm and restraint” between Pakistan and Afghanistan following an airstrike on a drug rehabilitation centre in Kabul.

Afghanistan accused Pakistan of targeting the treatment facility for drug addicts, while Islamabad denied deliberately striking civilian locations. The Pakistani military has conducted multiple air operations in Kabul in recent weeks, citing attacks carried out by extremists allegedly sheltered by the Taliban government.

Pakistan denies refusing China’s proposal for talks with Afghanistan

China’s foreign ministry urged both countries to “swiftly implement a ceasefire” and resolve disputes through dialogue. Beijing positions itself as a close partner of Pakistan while also maintaining friendly relations with Afghanistan.

A Chinese special envoy recently spent a week mediating between Islamabad and Kabul. “China… will continue to leverage its own channels to play a constructive role in de-escalating tensions and facilitating the improvement of bilateral relations,” spokesman Lin Jian told reporters. He added that “dialogue and negotiation constitute the only effective means of resolving issues between the two countries.”
