Chief of Romanian Naval Forces Visits Newly Commissioned PNS Yamama

Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi Meets Romanian Naval Chief to Strengthen Maritime Cooperation

Islamabad: The Chief of the Romanian Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Mihai Panait, visited the newly commissioned Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Yamama at Constanta Port in Romania. During the visit, Vice Admiral Panait was provided with a comprehensive briefing on the ship’s advanced capabilities and its role in enhancing the operational readiness of the Pakistan Navy.

PNS Yamama is the fourth and final Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) built for the Pakistan Navy by DAMEN Shipyards, Galati, Romania. These state-of-the-art vessels are designed to operate in contested maritime environments and serve as platforms for deterrence across various domains of warfare. With its commissioning on 17 December 2024, PNS Yamama embarked on its maiden Passage Exercise with a Romanian Navy ship, marking the start of its operational duties at sea.

Earlier, Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi, Commander Karachi, paid a visit to Bucharest, where he met with Vice Admiral Mihai Panait. During the meeting, both naval leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, including enhancing Navy-to-Navy engagements and cooperation in maritime security. The two senior officers expressed their satisfaction with the growing relationship between the Romanian and Pakistan Navies, and both reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in operational and training activities.

The successful commissioning of PNS Yamama and the visit of the Romanian naval chief are seen as significant milestones in the continued partnership between the two nations, enhancing maritime security and operational collaboration.
