Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan still hold hopes as Bangladesh face New Zealand today
RAWALPIDI: Pakistan would closely watch the Champions Trophy match between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Rawalpindi on Monday (today) as their chances in the mega event hang by a thread.
The hosts are at the bottom of the table after losing their first two matches against archrivals India and New Zealand. They have a net run rate of -1.087.
India beat Pakistan by six wickets in the blockbuster contest in Dubai on Sunday.
Kohli’s 51st ton in the format in Dubai led India to a comfortable victory over their arch-rivals and to the brink of the semi-finals.
While against New Zealand, Paksitani’s batting lineup did not play according to the target they were chasing. Only Khusdil Shah showed some intent, as experts said.
The 60-run defeat was a big margin, but Mohammad Rizwan after winning the toss against India said that it was a past game and the team was focused on the clash against India. They failed to build partnerships and settled for a low target.
Rizwan admitted this and also blamed the fielding for their loss.
It is also a do-or-die situation for Bangladesh. Their victory would keep them alive in the 50-over tournament.
Pakistan face Bangladesh in their last group match in Rawalpindi on Thursday, but both will already be eliminated if Bangladesh lose to New Zealand.
