Bird Strike Alert Issued for Pilots Amid Monsoon Rain

The advisory urges pilots to exercise heightened caution during flight operations in affected areas.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has issued a fresh advisory for pilots concerning increased bird activity around airport zones due to the ongoing monsoon season.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has highlighted that a significant number of birds have been observed flying below 3,000 feet near several airfields, posing potential risks during aircraft landings and takeoffs.

The advisory urges pilots to exercise heightened caution during flight operations in affected areas.

In response to the situation, airport authorities are considering a temporary daily closure of Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIA). Sources suggest the airport may remain closed for three hours each day from July 1 to September 15, 2025, to mitigate bird-strike risks.

Officials emphasized that these precautions are being considered solely to protect passengers and ensure flight safety. A separate NOTAM is expected to be issued soon, detailing the potential closure schedule for AIIA.
