LONDON: (Web Desk) – Ben Stokes, captain of England cricket team in Tests, will miss the opening month of the county season as he continues to recover from a serious facial injury.
The 34-year-old all-rounder suffered a fractured cheekbone after being struck by a ball during a training session with Durham last month. Although surgery was successful, images he shared on Instagram showed significant swelling and bruising, highlighting the severity of the injury.
Due to a lengthy recovery process, Stokes has been forced to delay his return. He had initially aimed to feature in Durham’s opening County Championship match against Kent, but he is now expected to miss the first four fixtures.

Stokes is instead targeting a comeback in May, likely featuring against Worcestershire and Kent as part of his preparation for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand cricket team.
Durham coach Ryan Campbell revealed that medical clearance is still pending, stressing the importance of a full recovery. He added that the injury could have been far worse, noting that if the ball had struck Stokes’ eye, the consequences might have been far more serious.
