Bangladesh Protests Amit Shah’s Remarks on Bangladeshi Nationals
Bangladesh has formally lodged a protest over remarks made by India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Bangladeshi nationals, expressing significant concern and urging India to advise its political leaders to avoid such statements.
On Monday, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed a protest note to India’s Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka, expressing “serious reservations, deep hurt, and extreme displeasure” over Shah’s comments, which they described as “highly regrettable.”
The note highlighted Bangladesh’s concerns, stating, “The Ministry expressed its serious reservations, deep sense of hurt, and extreme displeasure, and called on the Indian government to advise its political leaders to avoid making such objectionable and unacceptable remarks.”
The ministry also pointed out that such statements from individuals in responsible positions undermine the mutual respect and understanding between the two friendly nations.
The Bangladesh government urged New Delhi to caution its political figures against issuing “objectionable and unacceptable” comments, according to the Dhaka Tribune.
