Bajaur attacker identified as Taliban elite fighter
ISLAMABAD: The suicide bomber who targeted the Malangi check post in Bajaur has been identified as an Afghan national with alleged links to the Afghan Taliban’s special forces, according to security sources cited by ARY News on Friday.
The attack occurred on February 16, 2026, when a militant attempted to detonate explosives at a joint security check post in Bajaur. The assault resulted in the martyrdom of 11 security personnel.
Security officials identified the attacker as Khwariji Ahmed, also known as Qari Abdullah Abuzar, reportedly a resident of Balkh province, Afghanistan. Sources claim he had previously served in the Taliban’s special forces unit.
Authorities maintain that there is clear evidence suggesting Afghan territory is being used to plan and facilitate terrorist activities against Pakistan. Officials further allege that the involvement of Afghan nationals in recent attacks indicates cross-border connections and external support networks.
Investigators also linked the February 6, 2026 suicide attack in Islamabad’s Tarlai area to militant training conducted in Afghanistan, reinforcing concerns about cross-border terrorism.
