In a spectacular turn of events, Pakistan’s cricket sensation, Babar Azam, has once again ascended to the summit of the ICC ODI rankings, reaffirming his dominance in the world of international cricket. The latest rankings update, released on Wednesday, revealed that Azam boasts an impressive 824 rating points, securing his place as the premier ODI batter.
Azam’s resurgence to the top was marked by exceptional performances on the field, as he showcased his exemplary skills and leadership prowess. The former Pakistan captain’s stellar contributions propelled him back to the pinnacle, captivating cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
India’s Shubman Gill and the cricket maestro Virat Kohli occupy the second and third positions, with 810 and 775 rating points, respectively. Azam’s triumph over Gill for the top spot was facilitated by the latter’s temporary absence due to rest during the ongoing series against South Africa.
Adding to the cricketing spectacle, England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid has orchestrated a remarkable ascent in the T20I rankings for bowlers. Rashid’s outstanding performances catapulted him to the coveted No.1 spot, displacing Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and India’s Ravi Bishnoi to second and third places, respectively.
Notably, Rashid becomes the second English player to clinch the No.1 ranking for T20I bowlers, following in the footsteps of off-spinner Graeme Swann, who held the position over a decade ago.
In the T20I batting rankings, Suryakumar Yadav has widened the gap with a commanding 100 rating points lead, fueled by his explosive century in the recent India-South Africa series. Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan and Aiden Markram of South Africa closely trail Yadav in second and third places, intensifying the global competition among cricket’s premier batsmen.
Shifting the spotlight to Test cricket, Australia’s Usman Khawaja’s stellar performance in the Perth Test has propelled him three places up to fourth in the rankings. Khawaja now stands within striking distance of the top-ranked Test batter, Kane Williamson.
Meanwhile, the Australian team witnessed significant individual improvements, with David Warner surging nine spots to 27th, and Mitchell Marsh climbing 12 places to share the 68th position, following their commendable performances against Pakistan.
