AKC Approves Newspapers for Media List, Sets New Guidelines

Muzaffarabad: The circulation monitoring committee of Azad Kashmir held a meeting on Tuesday at the PID Complex, chaired by the Director of Public Relations and Chairman of the Circulation Monitoring Committee, Raja Amjad Hussain Munhas. The meeting focused on the circulation of 11 daily newspapers and 2 weekly publications.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Director of Information Mirpur Division, Tariq Jamil Darani, Vice Chairman of the Press Foundation Sardar Zulfiqar Ali, President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Newspaper Society Amjad Chaudhry, District Information Officer Muzaffarabad Raja Sohail Khan, Assistant Director Advertising Syed Asif Hussain Naqvi, President of Newspaper Sellers Union Muzaffarabad Division Shoaikat Nawaz Mir, President of Newspaper Sellers Union Poonch Division Chaudhry Nazir, Member Press Foundation Zahid Bashir, Advertising Officer Sagheer Ahmed, and other relevant officials.

The committee reviewed the circulation of 9 Urdu, 2 English daily newspapers, and 2 weekly publications. It was recommended that 8 newspapers with complete documentation be included on the media list, while 5 newspapers were granted conditional approval to complete their documentation. The meeting also decided that all newspapers and magazines on the media list must have their own bureau offices and staff in Azad Kashmir, and their operations will be monitored.

Furthermore, the committee decided that newspapers on the media list must ensure appropriate coverage of the Government of Azad Kashmir’s news. Speaking at the event, Raja Amjad Hussain Munhas emphasized that monthly circulation reports are being obtained from all districts. He urged that all newspapers ensure their presence in every district of Azad Kashmir to reach a larger audience. He also highlighted the impact of digital media on global newspaper circulation, stressing the importance for newspapers to establish a presence both in print and digitally for their survival.
