ATC Issues Arrest Warrants for Opposition Leader Omar Ayub in May 9 Riots Case

Mianwali Disturbances Hearing Held, Key Figures Present

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court in Sargodha has issued arrest warrants for Omar Ayub, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, for failing to appear in court regarding the May 9 riots case.

The hearing, presided over by Judge Mohammad Naeem Shain, took place on the disturbances and vandalism that occurred in Mianwali on May 9. Several nominated individuals, including Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Ahmed Khan Bhachar, Sanam Javed, Alia Hamza, MNA Bilal Ejaz, and dozens of other workers, were present in court.

However, Omar Ayub did not attend the hearing, and his lawyers submitted a medical certificate in his defense. The court expressed dissatisfaction over his continuous absence, noting that he had missed three consecutive hearings. The court further stated that the delay in his attendance had prevented the framing of charges against the other accused.
