Application against PDM’s leadership filled over hate speech
In a move to counter the sedition case against Shahbaz Gill, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), on the directives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, has decided to file sedition cases against the leaders of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for delivering anti-army speeches in the past,
According to the informed sources, the provincial cabinet of KP decided on August 18 last to file sedition cases against the PDM leaders, using its powers under Section 196 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Act V of 1898).
The cases will be filed against Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Rana Sanaullah, Khawaja Asif and Capt (retd) Safdar, under Sections 108A, 353A and 505 of the CrPC, for making anti-army speeches on various occasions in the past.
In this regard, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Munir Ahmed has been asked through a written letter to get sedition cases registered in Dera Ismail Khan through police against the accused nominated in applications filed by PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur.
The sources in the office of the Dera Ismail Khan district police officer (DPO) have confirmed the receipt of the applications and a letter of the assistant commissioner for a legal action.
