Trump Says China Understands Consequences of Attacking Taiwan

Trump refrained from clarifying whether the United States would come to Taiwan’s defense.

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping is fully aware of the consequences if China attempts to take control of Taiwan.

However, Trump refrained from clarifying whether the United States would come to Taiwan’s defense.

In an interview with CBS News, Trump said that the issue of Taiwan was not discussed at all during his meeting with Xi Jinping.

When asked whether he would deploy U.S. forces if China took military action against Taiwan, Trump replied, “If that happens, you will know, and they know the response.”

He refused to provide further details, saying, “I cannot reveal my secrets, but the other side knows everything.”

Trump also claimed that Xi Jinping and his close associates have openly stated that “they would never take any action during President Trump’s tenure” because they understand what the “consequences would be.”
