Alleged Rape by Security Guard Sparks Violent Protests at Lahore College
Security Guard Allegedly Assaults Female Student at Lahore College, Sparking Protests
Violence Erupts as Students Demand Justice, Guard Arrested in Sialkot
Tensions flared at a private college in Lahore’s Gulberg area after a first-year female student was allegedly raped by a security guard during college hours in the basement of the institution.
Following the incident, the guard fled but was later apprehended by police in Sialkot. Authorities have launched an investigation into the assault, promising more details will be released as the inquiry progresses.
The incident ignited outrage among students, leading to violent protests on campus. Students, furious over the lack of immediate action, vandalized the college, destroyed CCTV cameras, and set fire to college property. Attempts by police to control the situation escalated into clashes, leaving 10 students and four officers injured. Rescue teams were dispatched to provide medical aid to the injured.
The local police, along with the anti-riot force, were deployed to restore order both inside and outside the campus. Initial negotiations with the protesting students failed, prompting further unrest. In the chaos, some parents rushed to the college to retrieve their children. Reports suggest the college administration locked students inside classrooms and closed the gates to prevent them from joining protests outside, further enraging the student body.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar arrived at the scene in an attempt to calm tensions, assuring students that their concerns would be addressed while urging them to refrain from further damage to the campus. Meanwhile, investigations into the assault are ongoing, with calls for justice and increased security measures in educational institutions gaining momentum.
