All accused acquitted in Umme Rubab Chandio murder case

Seven Years of Fighting for Justice Ends With Heartbreak for Umme Rubab as Court Frees All Accused

Umme Rubab Chandio  – (Web Desk) – A court in Dadu acquitted all eight accused on Monday in the murder case of Umme Rubab Chandio’s father, grandfather and uncle. The verdict came after seven long years of trial and nearly 400 hearings.

The Model Criminal Court had reserved its verdict on February 27. The case had kept the whole country’s attention for years.

The murders happened because the victims had formed a Tamandar Council. This council was against the tribal chieftain system in Mehar. Powerful people allegedly did not like that.

Eight people were named in the case. Among them were Sindh Assembly members Sardar Ahmed Chandio and Burhan Khan Chandio. Former SHO Karim Bux Chandio was also accused. Four of them were in jail and four were out on bail.

The case became famous when Umme Rubab stopped the car of then Chief Justice Saqib Nisar. She was demanding justice. That moment shocked the entire nation.

Back in 2020 a Sindh Police inquiry gave a clean chit to the assembly members. The inquiry officer said there was not enough evidence against them.

Over the years the case moved through many courts. It went from an Anti Terrorism Court to Sukkur then Mirpur Mathelo and finally landed in Dadu.

After the verdict Umme Rubab spoke to the media outside the court. She was calm but firm. She said the court gave its decision but people already know the truth. She said she had already won in the court of public opinion.

She also said that all fingers are not equal. She announced she will take this case to the High Court and then the Supreme Court.
