Alert;44-year rainfall record breaks in Lahore

According to the data, the 300 mm of rain at the airport broke all previous records. More than 200 mm of rain was recorded in most city areas. Nishtar Town recorded 250 mm, Paniwala Talab 226 mm, Johar Town 220 mm, Tajpura 220 mm, and Cordoba Chowk 218 mm.

LAHORE)- Alert;44-year rainfall record breaks in Lahore,Lahore city experienced the most rainfall in 44 years today (Thursday) which resulted in flooding of low-lying areas.

In response, Commissioner Lahore has declared a rain emergency and announced holidays for offices and schools to prevent damage. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has ordered the early drainage of water in Lahore and other affected cities. An alert has been issued to the relevant departments, and administrative officers and workers have been instructed to stay in the field.

Statistics show a staggering 337mm rainfall at the airport. Nishtar Town had 227mm, Gulshan-e-Ravi 210mm, Lakhsmi Chowk 191mm, Upper Mall 182mm, Tajpura 180mm, and Mughalpura 173mm rainfall.

Downpour in several areas inundated roads and streets in the provincial capital and motorists faced immense difficulties while trying to carry on with their routine work.

Rain caused disruption of electricity in parts of Lahore as dozens of feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped.

The Met Office has predicted that the current rain spell in the country will continue till Aug 6.

Several areas of Punjab, icluding Gujrat, Gujranwala and Wazirabad, have also experienced heavy downpour.

The rainfall has broken the streak of hot and humid weather in Punjab. Dozens of feeders have tripped in different areas of Punjab after rainfall.

The provincial capital of Sindh also experiened rainfall in some areas. Parts of Karachi recorded heavy rain whereas others experienced light rain.

Statistics for Karachi showed that Gulshan-e-Maimar recorded 11.5mm rainfall whereas Shahrah-e-Faisal 11mm, North Karachi 10mm, Korangi 8.8mm and Jinnah Terminal recorded 5.8mm rainfall.

Strongs winds having a velocity of 20 to 22 km/h were recorded in the city and humidity in the air was recorded at 89 percent.
