Akhtar Mengal Stands Firm on Resignation, Dealing Blow to Government

Islamabad(Staff Reporter)_Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) MNA Akhtar Mengal has refused to withdraw his resignation from the National Assembly, citing the government’s lack of attention to the issues faced by the people of Balochistan. Mengal, who announced his resignation on Tuesday, met with a government committee led by Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday, but remained firm on his decision.

Mengal told the media that he had been raising his voice about the issues of missing persons and mutilated bodies in Balochistan for a long time, but the government had failed to take notice. He said that there was no use in sitting in an assembly that was unable to resolve public issues.

The government and opposition had started joint efforts to convince Mengal to take back his decision, with a delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders meeting him at his residence in Islamabad. However, Mengal said that he would think about their suggestions, but did not commit to withdrawing his resignation.

PTI MNA Asad Qaiser told the media that they had requested Mengal to withdraw his decision, and were trying to call an all-party conference on Balochistan. Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar also requested Mengal to reconsider his decision, saying that leaving the assembly forum was not a good decision.

Mengal’s resignation has sparked a crisis in the National Assembly, with many politicians urging him to reconsider his decision. However, Mengal remains firm, saying that he is not speaking in French or any other foreign language that the government is not understanding.
