AJK Elections First Phase Begins Tomorrow in Mirpur Division

ISLAMABAD (Our Correspondent): The first phase of the three-stage general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) will take place tomorrow in the Mirpur Division.

The AJK government has announced a public holiday in the Mirpur Division on July 27 to facilitate voters and ensure smooth polling arrangements.

Polling will be conducted for 13 legislative seats across the division, including four seats in Mirpur, three in Bhimber, and six in Kotli. A total of 287 candidates are participating in the electoral contest, representing political parties as well as independent groups.

The Mirpur Division has around 1.4 million registered voters, including 725,811 male voters and 675,628 female voters.

Election authorities have set up 2,454 polling stations with 3,701 polling booths to manage the voting process across the division.

District Returning Officer Sardar Muhammad Akram said that all preparations have been completed to conduct peaceful, transparent, and impartial elections. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone violating the election code of conduct.

Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal appealed to citizens to actively participate in the democratic process and cast their votes for candidates of their choice. He assured that comprehensive security arrangements would be in place during polling.

Security personnel and quick response teams will be deployed at polling stations, while authorities have warned of immediate action against individuals attempting to disrupt the electoral process.
