Afghanistan Start Asia Cup 2025 with a Stunning Win, Defeat Hong Kong by 94 Runs
Afghanistan dominated with both bat and ball, marking an emphatic start to their tournament campaign.
Abu Dhabi – Afghanistan made a spectacular start to the Asia Cup 2025 by winning their opening Group B match against Hong Kong by a commanding margin of 94 runs.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan chose to bat first and posted a competitive total of 188 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Sadiqullah Atal played a brilliant unbeaten innings, scoring 73 runs off 52 balls. Meanwhile, Omarzai provided explosive support with a quick-fire 53 runs off just 21 deliveries. Muhammad Nabi also contributed a valuable 33 runs to the total.
In response, Hong Kong’s batting lineup crumbled under Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling attack. Only Babar Hayat managed to reach a respectable score of 39 runs, while no other batsman crossed the double-digit mark. The team was restricted to a disappointing 94 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs.
Gulbadin Naib and Farooqi were the standout bowlers for Afghanistan, each claiming 2 wickets. Omarzai, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad chipped in with one wicket apiece, sealing a comprehensive victory.
With this win, Afghanistan not only earned two crucial points but also sent a clear message to the other teams that they are serious contenders in the Asia Cup 2025.
