Lahore: Maryam Nawaz, Chief Minister of Punjab, has given her approval for phase-wise reforms in the healthcare system of the province. During a meeting chaired by the CM, it was directed that every hospital in Punjab must be equipped with doctors, paramedical staff, medicines, and necessary medical equipment.
To ensure transparency in the healthcare sector, Maryam Nawaz has instructed the formation of a health advisory council comprising government officials, professionals, and public representatives. This council will oversee the implementation of reforms and ensure accountability.
Additionally, plans were discussed to upgrade, construct, and rehabilitate Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centers (RHCs) across the province. The CM emphasized the need for uniformity in the external and internal design of these healthcare facilities, along with the installation of Urdu signboards and proper floor lining for public guidance.
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz has approved the immediate provision of free medicines to patients and called for the establishment of field hospitals to bring healthcare services closer to communities. Mobile health units will also be dispatched to suburban areas and villages on scheduled days to provide medical assistance.
In addressing specific healthcare needs, the CM has instructed authorities to assess and address shortages of infant formula as a priority. Proposals for establishing medical centers for the treatment of heart, cancer, and other diseases in each district were also evaluated during the meeting.
