Ethiopia & Pakistan Mark Milestone with Unanimous Ratification of Bilateral Trade Agreement

Islamabad (Aamer Rafique Butt) – In a significant diplomatic achievement, Ethiopia’s Parliament has unanimously ratified the bilateral trade agreement signed with Pakistan on February 14, 2023, marking a pivotal moment for the two nations. The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Pakistan joyfully announces this key development, which is expected to elevate the economic and commercial ties between the two countries.
The trade agreement, presented to the Ethiopian Parliament by the Standing Committee on Trade and Tourism, received unanimous approval during the 8th regular meeting of the 3rd year of the House of the Peoples Representatives.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia in Pakistan Jemal Beker Abdula has expressed his enthusiasm over the approval of the agreement, hailing it as a major breakthrough in the bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan. The Ambassador emphasized that the trade pact, designed to enhance cooperation, is poised to significantly boost bilateral trade, which currently exceeds 80 million USD.
Highlighting the potential impact of the agreement, Ambassador Abdula noted that it will lay the groundwork for the establishment of a joint action committee on trade and foster robust institutional linkages between Ethiopia and Pakistan. He extended his congratulations to the business communities of both nations, envisioning a new era in their collaboration.
The Ambassador underlined that this positive development follows a series of engagements, including the exchange of delegations between the two countries. He recalled the visit of over 70 businessmen and investors to Ethiopia in March, as well as the trip of more than 50 Ethiopian businessmen to Pakistan in May, demonstrating the proactive efforts to explore lucrative markets.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Abdula expressed optimism that the ratified trade agreement, coupled with the commencement of Ethiopian Airlines operations, sets the stage for the bilateral relations to flourish amidst the evolving global landscape.
