Russia, Ukraine and US Prepare for Abu Dhabi Negotiations
Abu Dhabi Prepares to Host Crucial Russia-Ukraine Peace Negotiations Next Week
MOSCOW: (News Desk) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that the next round of trilateral peace negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States will begin in Abu Dhabi on November 10, raising hopes for renewed diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing war.
According to reports published on Saturday, November 7, the negotiations are scheduled to continue for two days, November 10 and 11, in the United Arab Emirates.
Putin confirmed the proposed schedule during a meeting with permanent members of Russia’s Security Council, saying he had invited members of the Russian delegation who would participate in the discussions.
The Russian delegation will be led by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, who has represented Moscow in previous rounds of negotiations with Ukraine.
The planned discussions are part of renewed diplomatic efforts to find a possible resolution to the conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has resulted in widespread destruction, civilian casualties and significant economic disruption.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has indicated that the negotiations will focus on post-war security arrangements, military de-escalation, humanitarian measures and possible steps towards ending the conflict.
Key Issues Expected to Dominate the Talks
Security guarantees for Ukraine, including possible arrangements to prevent future military aggression, are expected to feature prominently in the discussions.
Military de-escalation will also be a major priority, with negotiators expected to explore measures to reduce hostilities and prevent further escalation.
Humanitarian concerns, including civilian protection, prisoners of war and assistance to conflict-affected communities, are also likely to form part of the agenda.
Territorial disputes remain one of the biggest obstacles to a potential agreement, as Russia and Ukraine continue to hold differing positions over occupied territories and the future status of disputed regions.
The discussions may also explore a broader framework for a lasting ceasefire and long-term political settlement.
International Significance
The Abu Dhabi negotiations represent another diplomatic opportunity for Washington, Moscow and Kyiv to pursue a possible resolution to Europe’s ongoing war.
The United Arab Emirates’ role as host also highlights the importance of Gulf diplomacy in facilitating discussions between countries involved in major international conflicts.
Meanwhile, diplomatic developments on November 8 indicated that European representatives, including France, would also participate in the upcoming discussions, although the precise representation had not yet been announced.
Despite renewed diplomatic engagement, expectations remain cautious as major disagreements over territorial arrangements, security guarantees and the terms of a possible ceasefire continue to complicate efforts to reach a lasting peace agreement.
