IHC Suspends Pakistan Badminton Federation, Directs PSB to Review Affairs
Pakistan Badminton Federation Faces Court Action Over Elections
According to sources, the court issued the suspension order and directed the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) to immediately review the federation’s affairs and establish an interim administrative arrangement until transparent elections are conducted.
The federation’s elections had faced objections from different quarters, with petitioners raising concerns over the electoral process and alleging irregularities in the formation of the governing body.
The court’s reported intervention has drawn attention within the badminton community, where stakeholders are hoping that the dispute will be resolved through a transparent electoral process and a representative leadership.
The controversy has also renewed debate over the governance of sports federations in Pakistan, particularly allegations of questionable club registrations, disputed voter lists and irregularities in election procedures.
Athletes and sports stakeholders have long called for greater institutional accountability, improved training facilities, international exposure and effective utilisation of resources to strengthen badminton in the country.
The Pakistan Sports Board is now expected to play a key role in addressing the dispute. Sports stakeholders have called for an impartial review of registered clubs and affiliated associations, followed by elections in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
They have also stressed that the interests of players should remain central to any administrative or electoral reforms, arguing that disputes over federation leadership should not undermine the development of the sport.
The latest development is likely to intensify scrutiny of governance practices across national sports bodies, with calls for transparent elections, accountability and greater opportunities for athletes.
