German Paediatrician Faces Trial Over Sex Abuse of 70 Children
The 46-year-old doctor has largely admitted the charges, which cover more than a decade of offences at two clinics in eastern Germany.
Germany – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – A paediatrician in eastern Germany went to court on Monday. The trial over sex abuse centres on a doctor accused of harming more than 70 children.
The man is 46 years old. He faces more than 130 criminal charges.
Prosecutors say the offences took place between 2013 and 2025. He worked at clinics in the towns of Nauen and Rathenow at the time.
The doctor spoke briefly after the charges were read out. He admitted most of the acts and said his earlier confessions were true. He also said he felt deep guilt.
Most of the victims were boys, according to the case file. Prosecutors say he made photographs and, at times, videos of the children.
In many cases, he is accused of using medical checks as a cover. The children and their families trusted him as a doctor.
At least four cases involved visits to daycare centres. Prosecutors say he used those medical visits to abuse very young children there.
The charges also involve a former patient. The teenager was 15 or 16 years old at the time. Prosecutors say the doctor met the teenager several times at a residence linked to one of the clinics.
The case began about a year ago. A mother reported her suspicions about her child to the authorities. Police then arrested the doctor.
Investigators searched his electronic devices. Prosecutors say they found more evidence of other crimes.
The doctor has stayed in custody since his arrest.
The trial is being held in Potsdam, a city just outside Berlin. The court expects it to run until December.
The case has shocked many people in Germany. Parents place great trust in children’s doctors, and this trial shows why strong child protection matters.
