ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – Federal Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi turned 48 on Wednesday, October 28, as relatives, friends, political figures and well-wishers extended birthday greetings and prayers.

Born on October 28, 1978, in Lahore, Naqvi belongs to a Syed family with ancestral roots in Jhang. His professional career spans journalism, media entrepreneurship, politics, public administration and cricket management.

Naqvi received his early education at Crescent Model School before attending Government College Lahore. He later moved to the United States for higher education and obtained a journalism degree from Ohio University.

He began his professional career with an internship at the American news network CNN, where he subsequently worked as a producer covering Pakistan before reportedly taking on a regional leadership role for South Asia.

At the age of 30, Naqvi entered the media business by establishing City 42, a Lahore-based television news channel. He later expanded his operations through City Media Group, which launched several television channels and news platforms, including 24 News, City 41 for Faisalabad, Rohi TV for southern Punjab, City 21 for Karachi and UK 44 for overseas Pakistanis. His administration pursued various development and governance initiatives, while the pace of project implementation became popularly associated with the phrase “Mohsin Speed.”

On February 6, 2024, Naqvi was elected unopposed as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board for a three-year term. Since taking charge, he has been involved in cricket administration, stadium renovation projects and arrangements for major international tournaments, including the ICC Champions Trophy.

He joined the federal cabinet on March 11, 2024, assuming responsibility for the interior and narcotics control portfolios in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government. His ministerial responsibilities include internal security, law and order, counterterrorism and matters concerning Islamabad.

In April 2024, Naqvi was elected to the Senate from Punjab as an independent candidate with the support of the ruling coalition.

He added another role to his cricket administration responsibilities in April 2025 when he assumed the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council for a two-year term.

Naqvi has also been associated with Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement on regional and international issues, including reported mediation efforts involving Iran and the United States.

On his 48th birthday, greetings and prayers continued to pour in from political, social and public circles, recognising his career across journalism, media, government and cricket administration.
