LUMS to Host Discussion on Punjab’s History, Memory and Identity

LAHORE: (News Desk) –  The Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) will organise a discussion titled “Whose Punjab? Writing Region, Memory, and History” on Friday, October 16, 2026.
The session will feature author Aamir Riaz, while Khola Iftikhar Cheema will participate as the discussant. The discussion will explore Punjab’s historical development, regional identity and the role of collective memory in shaping the region’s representation.

The event will examine how historical narratives, cultural experiences and shared memories influence the understanding of Punjab, a region known for its diverse cultural traditions and rich literary heritage. Its title raises important questions about whose perspectives, experiences and interpretations shape the region’s history.

Organised as part of the Gurmani Centre’s engagement with languages, literature and cultural history, the discussion will provide a platform for examining how regional identities are constructed, documented and remembered across generations.

The event is scheduled to take place from 5 pm to 7 pm at A-11, Academic Block, LUMS, Lahore, bringing together participants interested in Punjab’s history, literature and cultural identity.
