ISLAMABAD: (Finance Reporter) – The Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme has been implemented across Pakistan, offering petrol to eligible beneficiaries at a subsidized rate of Rs100 per litre.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is personally overseeing the implementation of the relief programme and has directed authorities to broaden its reach and ensure maximum facilitation for beneficiaries, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The prime minister has also instructed the relevant departments to ensure that beneficiaries receive the petrol subsidy conveniently, respectfully and without facing unnecessary difficulties.
Following feedback received from different parts of the country, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved another measure to further facilitate beneficiaries under the scheme.
According to a press release issued by the PM Office Media Wing on Saturday, motorcyclists as well as Qingqi and rickshaw owners purchasing less than five litres of petrol will also be eligible for a Rs500 discount against a single token within a week.
Under the revised arrangement, one token will be issued each week, with a maximum of four tokens available to each beneficiary during a month.
Meanwhile, owners of vehicles up to 800cc will continue to receive a subsidy of Rs100 per litre on 10 litres of petrol every 10 days, in accordance with the earlier decision. Three tokens for 10 litres of petrol will consequently be issued each month.
The prime minister had previously announced that registration messages sent to individuals eligible for the scheme would be completely free of charge.
He had also ordered the inclusion of 20-year-old motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws in the fuel relief programme, with the decision now being implemented.
Under the updated eligibility criteria, all motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws registered on or after January 1, 2006, are eligible for registration under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.
