Amazon Plane Crash Miami Kills Five, Injures Several Others

Miami – (Special Correpondent/Web Desk) –  An Amazon plane crash Miami left five people dead and five others hurt on Sunday afternoon, after a cargo jet skidded off the runway at Miami International Airport and burst into flames.

The aircraft, Prime Air Flight 7598, was flying in from San Juan, Puerto Rico. It touched down just before 2pm and failed to stop in time, running past the edge of the runway and slamming into several vehicles parked nearby.

Officials say the plane came to rest near the northwest side of the airport. Thick black smoke rose into the sky within moments, and the jet quickly caught fire.

More than sixty Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews rushed to the scene. Firefighters worked for hours to put out the flames, which one fire chief called extremely difficult to control because parts of the engine were still burning.

Five people were taken to hospitals. Three of them are in critical condition, while the other two suffered less serious injuries. Rescue teams had to cut through wreckage to free people trapped inside vehicles that were struck by the plane.

The Boeing 767-300 involved in the crash is over three decades old. It first flew as a passenger jet before being turned into a cargo freighter back in 2015. It was being flown by 21 Air, a cargo airline based in North Carolina that operates flights for Amazon.

A fuel leak was also reported at the crash site. Emergency crews spent hours working to contain it and keep the area safe.

Miami International Airport shut down all its runways right after the crash happened. This forced a full ground stop, meaning no planes could take off or land for a while. Airport officials say two of the four runways have since reopened, but delays are expected to continue into Monday.

Hundreds of flights were delayed, and many others got cancelled entirely. US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned travellers to prepare for major disruptions in the days ahead.

Amazon released a short statement saying it is working closely with local authorities to figure out exactly what went wrong. A company spokesperson said the situation is still unfolding and that the safety of everyone involved remains the top concern.

The head of 21 Air also spoke out, saying the company is devastated by what happened. He offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and confirmed the airline is cooperating fully with investigators.

Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are now looking into the crash. Investigators have already started collecting evidence from the site, though it may take time before a clear cause is known.

For now, officials are simply asking the public to stay patient as the airport works to get back to normal. Flight delays are likely to continue for at least another day, and passengers are being urged to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
