Germany Retain Men’s Hockey World Cup Title

WEVER: (Sports Desk) – Defending champions Germany defeated Spain 1-0 in the final to successfully retain the Men’s Hockey World Cup title.

The decisive goal came from Germany’s Michael Struthoff, who found the net in the 44th minute at the Belfius Hockey Arena in Wever.

The victory secured Germany’s fourth Hockey World Cup title, allowing them to equal Pakistan’s record of four men’s world titles.

Spain controlled possession for much of the final and created several scoring opportunities, but Germany’s disciplined defence stood firm and denied their opponents a way back into the match.

Spain, appearing in the World Cup final for the first time since 1998, pushed aggressively for an equaliser during the final quarter.

With around four minutes remaining, Spain withdrew its goalkeeper to bring on an additional outfield player in an attempt to level the score. Germany, however, held its defensive shape and successfully protected its narrow advantage until the final whistle.

Argentina Secure Bronze

Earlier on Sunday, Argentina defeated the Netherlands 2-1 in the third-place playoff to claim the men’s bronze medal.

Argentina’s success came a day after its women’s team also defeated the Netherlands to win the women’s World Cup title.

In the women’s final in Amstelveen, Argentina and the Netherlands finished level at 1-1 after regulation time, before Argentina prevailed 3-1 in the shootout.

As a result, Argentina finished the tournament with women’s gold and men’s bronze medals, while Germany successfully defended its men’s world title.
