LAHORE: (Staff Reporter) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a major water supply project linked to Daducha Dam in Rawalpindi, aimed at improving access to clean drinking water for residents of the city.
According to a Housing Department spokesperson, the project will involve the construction of a surface water treatment plant along with a comprehensive water supply system. The scheme is scheduled for completion by December 2029.
Under the project, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will develop the required water supply infrastructure with support from the Punjab government.
Once operational, the system is expected to provide around 35 million gallons of treated water per day to Rawalpindi’s supply network, significantly strengthening the city’s access to safe drinking water.
The project has been estimated to cost approximately Rs36 billion and is being viewed as an important step toward addressing Rawalpindi’s growing demand for clean water.
Following completion of Daducha Dam, WASA will undertake work on the transmission line and broader water distribution network to ensure the treated water reaches residents.
The Punjab government’s initiative is aimed at creating a more reliable water supply system and providing Rawalpindi citizens with cleaner and safer drinking water.
