Finland Suspects Russian Aircraft Of Airspace Violation Again

Defence Ministry Launches Investigation After Suspected Breach Near Russian Border

Finland – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Finland suspects Russian aircraft crossed into its airspace on Thursday, prompting an official investigation by the country’s defence ministry. The incident adds to a growing list of similar breaches reported this year.

Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen confirmed the suspected violation in a statement released Thursday evening. He said every case is treated with full seriousness, and officials are now reviewing what happened.

This is not the first such event. Finland already flagged two separate cases earlier this year, one in May and another in June. Both times, the Russian charge d’affairs was summoned to explain.

Finland shares a long border with Russia, stretching over 1,340 kilometres. This makes airspace security a constant concern for Finnish authorities, especially given recent regional tensions.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Finland has taken a firmer stance on defence. The country ended decades of military neutrality and officially joined NATO in April 2023.

Officials have not yet confirmed further details about Thursday’s incident. The investigation remains active, and updates are expected soon from Finnish defence authorities.
